This assignment involved the creation of an entire product identity. The product was a hand-held Palm Pal device and the task was to customise it for a particular audience. I chose to customise it for the teen-girl market.

I researched teen-girl culture making mood boards to assist me in the choice of colours and icons. Concepts such as iconography and typography were researched to create a consistent look and feel that would be attractive to teenage girls.

Click HERE to see a final mock-up of the product. All elements of the design are described in more detail below.

Things I designed were:

1. A logo for the product that would look good in both colour and greyscale. The logo consists of a heart, a symbol ubiquitoous in teen-girl culture and a 'POW' symbol emphasising the concept of 'Girl Power'.

2. Three logos for the functions: Undo, Delete and Return. These were designed to work at a small resolution and their colour was restricted as they had to sit on the screen.

3. Six icons for the functions: Calendar, Address book, Time, Diary, Schedule, Calculator and Password. Emphasis was given to unambiguous design.

4. A cover for a manual that was to accompany the product. This was done in PDF format. Click here for the PDF document. You will need Acrobat Reader to be able to view this.

5. A contents page for the manual. This was done in PDF format. Click here for the PDF document. You will need Acrobat Reader to be able to view this.
